Dust Devil!

In 2003 my wife and I were on a hike on a ranch at the foot of the Guadalupe Mountains National part, and a dust devil approached us so quickly that I only had time to shout to my wife "Cover your eyes!"  We both ducked out heads and covered our eyes as we felt the hot, swirling wind whip right over us...quite forcefully.  That was our introduction to the legendary dust devils of the southwest!  For many years I have been interested in capturing the land at curious moments, and this painting was the way I stylized, in my mind, a dust devil whipping through the big cacti of the desert.  This was one of the most fun paintings I've ever done! - Neil
