Have you ever wanted to learn with an exhibiting fine artist who is as easy to work with as Bob Ross was to watch? Well, that's me!
For a number of years now I have worked predominately with kids. I come to a kid's home, we talk about art, we make art, and we NEVER let in the fear of failure. I told a parent once that I put the pencil in the kid's hands with no preconditions, and we jump in and make art without trying to stress someone out or make them fear failure. Kids will tell you, I always say "If it doesn't turn out well, just call it a study and nobody ever has to see it!"
During the difficult days of the pandemic, I even taught oil painting to two adult students long distance. Both painted along with me, step by step, and we had a great time.

All supplies are provided by me. If larger or different supplies are required for a particular project, I will source them for you and you will receive them at my cost. No markup.
I offer classes in:
Drawing and sketching. $40 per hour. With emphasis on artist pencils that get best possible effects.
Painting in Gouache. $40 per hour. Gouache is a kind of opaque watercolor that is easier and a bit more forgiving than traditional watercolor - but looks much the same.
Painting in oils. $60 per hour. Long the most used and most vibrant medium, I teach kids and adults to confidently approach oil painting using non-toxic mediums and materials.
Painting in Acrylic. $45 per hour. Many kids do start off painting in Acrylic and there are many wonderful things you can do with this quick drying, water soluble medium. Layering is easy because the paint dries so fast!
Painting with Metal Leaf. $65 per hour. I teach students the fundamentals of painting and applying metal leaf, such as gold, silver, and bronze, to highlight and bring out new effects in their paintings. This can be a challenging medium for some, but I keep it simple and approachable.
Linocut Printmaking. $50 per hour. I take pride in teaching kids, and anyone else, this fun and easy to do medium. I emphasize the technique of linocut printing. When working with kids I let them do every part of the process except the carving of the block, which requires a cutting tool that I don't let kids use, for their safety. But they make and draw the design, I cut the block, and we make prints! This has recently been my most popular class!
Pottery Painting. $50 per hour. I teach a simple kind of acrylic painting on ceramic pottery. With kids this can be especially fun...since suppliers make everything from pots to ceramic dinosaurs! Pottery is a noted traditional art form in the American Southwest, and I very much like to expose kids and adults to this beautiful medium.
